Spinal Rehabilitation and More in Edina, MN

Chiropractic BioPhysics

Many people who experience back and neck pain and seek chiropractic care have structural and postural changes which necessitate a highly specialized treatment approach. Some people have spinal curvatures (scoliosis) while others exhibit structural changes like a rounded upper back, loss of neck curve or overall poor posture. Such circumstances require more than just chiropractic adjustments for effective management. Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) is just such an approach. CBP was developed by Dr. Don Harrison, a chiropractor and PhD. mathematician in the 1980s. CBP drew upon the work of Dr. Burl Pettibon and others, but then advanced the subject to create the most researched and validated technique in the chiropractic profession. Dr. Don Harrison died some years ago, but the mantle has been taken up by his son, Dr. Deed Harrison. Dr. Harrison and many other authors have contributed to what now forms a massive research base for the technique. There are currently over 150 peer reviewed articles in a wide array of journals on the fundamental premises underlying CBP.

Chiropractic BioPhysics utilizes 3 main components to change posture and correct spinal curvatures:

  1. Exercises to create mobility and the muscle strength necessary to support a new posture and spinal architecture
  2. Adjustments of the spine and related joints to enhance joint mobility and, in essence, reprogram the nervous system so that it "cooperates" in the corrective process
  3. Traction which, in a graduated fashion, remolds the ligaments and other soft tissues surrounding the spine

The combination of these three components can create substantial change over time and results in better posture, improved spinal architecture, improved nervous system function and overal better health and human performance.
