A New Approach to Scoliosis Care in the Twin Cities
If you have already requested your first free scoliosis consultation, we look forward to meeting you and helping you live a healthier and more vibrant life.
Some have asked about what makes Dr. Fargo and the team at Chiropractic Health and Wellness different. Dr. Fargo is a perennial student and has spent years accumulating both knowledge and skill in the treatment of scoliosis and other spinal disorders. In addition he has allied himself with the world-renowned ScoliCare clinics in Sydney, Australia, and with the Ideal Spine Center in Boise, Idaho. What this collaboration means for you as a prospective patient is that you have, right here in the Twin Cities, a team of experts who are fully committed to helping you with your scoliosis. We do have patients who have come from as far away as Turkey to be fitted for a brace by Dr. Fargo. The good news is that you do not have to travel any further than Edina, Minnesota, to get expert advice and care.
Do I Have Scoliosis?
If you are not certain whether you or someone you know has scoliosis, then your first course of action should be to have a free consultation as soon as possible. Because scoliosis progresses over time, especially in children, it is essential that you act quickly and work to prevent progression and irreversible damage.
Expert Scoliosis Evaluations
At Chiropractic Health and Wellness in Edina, Minnesota, we see patients of all ages and with all manner of concerns relating to their spinal health. Some people already know that they have scoliosis and are concerned about pain, poor posture, and potential progression. Others seek us out because they have back pain and/or concerns about posture and are simply looking to identify the cause and want conservative solutions. At Chiropractic Health and Wellness, our goal is to identify the cause of your complaints, help you feel better as quickly as possible, and provide long-term solutions that will result in a lifetime of better health.
There are many causes of scoliosis ranging from scoliosis of unknown cause (idiopathic), to degenerative changes and even rare neurological conditions. Our first order of business is to identify the cause of your scoliosis so that appropriate diagnostic and treatment can be provided. In addition, any care provided must take into account the following:
- Patient age
- Stage of growth and skeletal maturity
- Curve magnitude
- Severity of condition
- Specific (individual) findings
Your First Scoliosis Consultation
On your first visit to Chiropractic Health and Wellness we will collect an in-depth health history so that we better understand the source and chronology of your condition. We are especially interested in any family history of scoliosis, the age that your scoliosis was identified, and your main concerns about the condition. We will then do a thorough physical examination to evaluate both the severity and nature of your scoliosis and also the potential for more serious underlying causes. We will spend whatever time we need to fully understand your condition and your goals.
Because the consultation and examination we perform is so thorough, we ask that you set aside at least 45 minutes for the initial appointment. During that appointment we will do the following tests:
- Digital posture analysis
- Range of motion testing
- Orthopedic testing
- Neurological testing
- x-rays
Once we have gathered all of this information we will be in a position to determine the cause, severity and prognosis for your scoliosis. During your 2nd visit we will then review the results of your tests as well as Dr. Fargo’s recommendations for care and/or additional testing. At that time, we will also discuss the goals of care, and your personalized treatment plan. We will also discuss all related costs and various payment options. We pride ourselves on education and communication; by the end of your 2nd visit you will fully understand your condition, what treatment options are available and the associated cost of care.
What If My Child Has Scoliosis?
It is common practice for pediatricians and traditional medical practitioners to adopt a “watch and wait” approach with children who have scoliosis. Unfortunately, such an approach is often shortsighted and increases the risk that your child will develop a rapidly progressive condition that can cause permanent damage. Why would you watch and wait when there is something that you can do right now to improve or even correct scoliosis? Children are particularly susceptible to rapid progression because their spines are still growing rapidly. The time of greatest risk for children with scoliosis is age 9 to 13 in girls and 10 to 14 in boys. These are the time frames during which children are growing and maturing most rapidly. Even small curves can progress rapidly during this time.
It is therefore essential to not just watch and wait, but to act quickly to properly diagnose and treat scoliosis in children. Time is of the essence, especially with children, because, just as there is a significant risk of progression, there is also a proportional potential for improvement and correction. These are the 2 sides of the coin in caring for children with scoliosis.
One of the most important things that you can do for your child is to bring them in for a free scoliosis check. Your action today can prevent a lifetime of pain, degeneration, surgery and even disability. If you have not already done so, click on the link on the right and schedule a scoliosis check for your child. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. We look forward to seeing you and your child and helping you achieve a lifetime of better health.
